2024 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf
Updated June 29, 2024
Purse: $1,000,000
Distance: 1 mile
Grade: 1
Age: 2-year-olds
Post Time: TBA
The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf was first staged at Monmouth in 2007 as an ungraded race. By 2010, it was a Grade 2, and since 2012, it has held a top grade. This year, it returns to Del Mar, keeps its million-dollar purse, and will once again be a showcase of the top young turf routers.
International runners tend to do well in this race, as nine of the fifteen winners so far have been trained outside of the United States. Charlie Appleby, Aiden O’Brien, and John Gosden have been excellent in this race. However, domestic trainers like Mike Maker, Chad Brown, Brian Lynch, and Wesley Ward have also seen recent success.
Selecting Your Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Bets
Having access to the form of the runners is even more important than usual, as it can be difficult to follow the careers of the runners based in Europe unless you are a hardcore racing guru. Check the runners to see what they’ve each achieved, take a few minutes to watch replays on TVG.com, and you can build up a pattern showing who you think has a great shot at the prize.
Here at TVG we can keep you on track with regular information on all races as we approach post-time at Keeneland in all of this year’s Breeders Cup.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Contenders
The top contenders for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf include:
Carson’s Run - Trainer: Christophe Clement - Sire: Cupid
He is mired on the outside, which might be a recipe for ground loss, but, in general, outside post, still fare fairly over the grass at Santa Anita. He rallied from near the rear on debut despite a modest pace in a short field, and looked even sharper last out in the Summer when he got an even sharper pace to close into. Though that came over a one-turn mile, his two two-turn tries at the Spa suggest he’ll do well over this configuration.
Endlessly - Trainer: Michael McCarthy - Sire: Oscar Performance
A son of 2016 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Oscar Performance, Endlessly has been the leader of the West Coast juvenile turf division. All three of his starts have come at the same flat mile as the Breeders’ Cup, including the local prep in the Zuma Beach (G3). He can stalk the pace or sit midfield, depending on how the pace unfolds, and he should be finishing sharply in the lane.
River Tiber - Trainer: Aidan O’Brien - Sire: Wootton Bassett
He won three straight to start his career, including the Coventry (G2) at Royal Ascot. He has finished third behind the talented Vandeek in his next two, the Prix Morny (G1) and the Middle Park (G1), both quality turf sprint races in Europe. His pedigree suggests the mile should be fine, and he does get Ryan Moore aboard, though this could be a sharp step forward in distance against horses more proven at a mile or close to it. Plus, he is drawn near the inside.
Unquestionable - Trainer: Aidan O’Brien - Sire: Wootton Bassett
Another runner from the Aidan O’Brien barn, he is the one who looks even better coming into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile turf. He has yet to try a mile, but missed by only a length in the Prix Jean Luc Lagardere (G1) at Longchamp last out, going seven furlongs. This race has him second off the lay, a point at his form cycle where he broke his maiden as well, and he gets big-race rider Frankie Dettori in the irons.
Tok Tok - Trainer: Graham Motion - Sire: Quality Road
He finished only fifth behind Can Group in the Bourbon (G2) last out, but was beaten only two lengths for the top prize and had to deal with traffic that day. That increases his big-field seasoning, something he already began to build when he broke his maiden in a 1 1/16-mile race with 13 horses at Colonial. He is tactically versatile, he shines at two turns, and trainer Graham Motion doesn’t tend to spot a horse ambitiously unless they fit.
